Cubic Named Preferred Bidder on San Francisco Bay Area's Fare System Modernization Project - top government contractors - best government contracting event

The San Francisco Metropolitan Transportation Commission has selected Cubic as the agency’s preferred contractor to update the fare collection system in California’s Bay Area.

Cubic said Friday its transportation systems business aims to modernize the Clipper electronic fare payment being used by 22 transit agencies across the region if the commission awards the project to the company after a three-stage approval process.

MTC personnel are scheduled to present the firm’s nomination Monday to the Clipper Executive Board. The company expects the agency’s operations committee to consider the award recommendation on Friday and the full commission to hand down a decision by Sept. 26.

“The vote to proceed to award for MTC’s future payment system reflects our continued commitment as to winning the customer by driving growth through innovation,” said Bradley Feldmann, chairman, president and CEO of Cubic.

“We will be honored to continue our relationship with MTC that began in 2009 when we took over the system to design, operate and maintain the rebranded Clipper system,” said Matt Cole, president of Cubic’s transportation systems unit.

The company proposed to build a new system for Bay Area commuters to pay fares with the use of an integrated mobile application designed to support virtual Clipper cards.

Cubic added it will incorporate an open-payment method into the system to facilitate contactless bank card and mobile payments for public transportation tickets.
