Raytheon Opens New Facility, Announces Plan to Expand Workforce in Portsmouth - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRaytheon has opened a new facility in Portsmouth, R.I. that will house collaborative work on radar equipment for the U.S. Navy, WPRI-TV reported Monday.

Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony that the new space will enable companies to work together, as well as with foreign partners and the Naval Warfare Center.

He added that the facility will help provide time and cost savings in developing new systems to deliver low-cost platforms to the U.S. military.

Raytheon also announced that it will expand its workforce in Portsmouth with 150 new jobs, most of which are engineering positions, The Province Journal reported Thursday.

The company also seeks to hire attorneys, assemblers and supply-chain workers, among other things, according to Paul Ferraro, vice president of the seapower capability systems of Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems subsidiary.

Raytheon currently employs 1,000 workers in its Portsmouth campus.
