Pete Hoene, president and CEO of SES‘ government solutions business, has said the company aims to offer a suite of managed services and systems designed to help customers transmit data in real time via a new satellite network.
He wrote in an article published by SpaceNews that Boeing will build seven medium-Earth orbit satellites for SES’ global O3b mPOWER fleet slated to enter service in 2021.
MPower is designed to have multilayer security and jam resistance features and help government users to manage beam location and capacity during air, sea and land missions.
According to Hoene, SES will use the system to land a beam at areas where customers need it or provide up to 5 gigahertz of bandwidth to a single spot anywhere in the world.
He added the company partnered with other companies to build terminals that will integrate specialized antennas, computing, storage, routing and software intelligence applications.
The Defense Department awarded SES Government Solutions a five-year, $516.7M blanket purchase agreement in June to provide DoD with MEO satellite connectivity, ground terminals, terrestrial backhaul, training and related support services.
