QinetiQ North America has secured a contract from the U.S. Navy‘s Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division, to demonstrate a sonar technology meant to aid underwater navigation.
The company said Thursday it aims to showcase the performance of the DOLPHIN underwater acoustic technology that seeks to address the nadir gap seen in current sidescan sonars.
DOLPHIN is designed to help Navy and commercial customers simultaneously transmit and receive sonar signals.
Mike Fry, vice president for strategy and business development at QNA’s maritime systems division, said the contract offers the company an opportunity to partner with the service branch in efforts to increase the performance of subsea acoustics systems.
