Hughes Network Systems has been listed in Fortune magazine’s ranking of companies that have demonstrated a social impact in core business strategies.
Fortune placed Hughes in the top 10 of its Change the World List and cited the firm’s efforts to facilitate communications in disaster recovery efforts with technology, the company said Monday.
Hughes operated more than 1.5K VSAT geosynchronous orbit satellites to provide connectivity for residents, hospitals and first responders when Hurricane Maria destroyed 2,400 miles of transmission lines in Puerto Rico.
The magazine ranked the list’s top firms in terms of measurable social impact; profitability and contribution to shareholder value; degree of innovation and corporate integration.
Hughes is a subsidiary of EchoStar and offers satellite communications services to government agencies, service providers and consumers across six continents.
