Geospatial Industry Players Form Council to Guide Collaboration - top government contractors - best government contracting eventLeaders from the geospatial world have formed a council that would facilitate collaboration in the industry, particularly among companies and representative trade organizations.

Jack Dangermond, president of Redlands, Calif.-based Esri, provider of geographic information system software, web geographic information systems and geodatabase management applications, will serve as the chairman and founder of the World Geospatial Industry Council, which was unveiled at the eighth session of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management, WGIC said Monday.

The council seeks to generate business opportunities and guide the exchange of knowledge in the geospatial industry.

WGIC also intends to boost awareness of and support efforts for better policy-making decisions and investments.

“This will also enable our industry as a whole to have a collective opinion on emerging policies such as those on privacy or geospatial data restriction. I firmly believe that by joining together and exploring collaborative efforts we can make meaningful progress,” Dangermond said.

The 21 firms that co-founded the council consist of:

  • AAM Group
