Galois has formed a new software re-engineering company in a push to help Defense Department customers reconfigure complex and large embedded systems.

The Tangram Flex spinoff aims to use “smart” tools in efforts to update cyber-physical platforms and other subsystems that support DoD missions. Galois said Thursday.

“Despite all the advancements in technology to date, it often takes years and millions of dollars to change one small component in a system, whether it is on an manufacturing industrial system or on a fighter jet,” said John Launchbury, chief technology officer at Tangram Flex.

Launchbury added the company seeks to help clients adapt systems when a modification is necessary.

Tangram Flex’s tooling platform is designed to automatically translate cybersecurity data between different components and identify vulnerabilities or flaws that often occur in areas of a system where users can access information.

The tool is built upon research and innovation efforts backed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and Air Force Research Laboratory.
