Pamela Melroy, former space shuttle commander at NASA, has joined Systems Planning and Analysis‘ board of directors, where she will share expertise in space, hypersonics, defense and international markets.
William Vantine, president and CEO at SPA, said in a statement the retired U.S. Air Force colonel brings to the company her extensive experience in the space, hypersonics and defense areas.
Melroy served 10 years at USAFÂ as test pilot, instructor and aircraft commander before she joined the space agency.
At NASA, she took part in three Space Shuttle missions and held commander duties aboard the spacecraft.
She then entered the private sector to work as deputy program manager at Lockheed Martin, where she oversaw $410M in contract efforts and more than 300 personnel for the Orion spacecraft’s design.
In 2011, she rejoined the government to direct field operations at the Federal Aviation Administration‘s Office of Commercial Space Transportation, and later on served as the agency’s acting deputy associate administrator.
