U.S. military leaders have said that service branches need a modernized information technology network that can help troops collect intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data from internet-of-things platforms, C4ISRNET reported Saturday.

Mike Leff, vice president for global defense at AT&T‘s public sector business, said military personnel need a “robust” network in order to secure and connect to ISR data as they perform missions on the battlefield.

Leff added that IoT technology can offer visibility of the supply chain during expeditionary and equipment logistics efforts.

The report noted that current military networks may not have the capacity to support emerging ISR systems that could operate with connected devices.
