Applied Information to Help Georgia DOT Install AT&T-Powered School Zone Beacons

The Georgia Department of Transportation has selected Applied Information to provide beacons as part of an effort to increase safety in the state’s school zones.

Applied Information said Wednesday it will help the department implement Glance School Zone Beacon Systems equipped with cellular modems and designed to help traffic engineers manage the flashing devices.

An AT&T internet-of-things platform called the Control Center will support operation of the beacons that are powered by the telecommunications firm’s 4G/LTE wireless network.

“Our initiative with Applied Information is a great example of our growing effort in public safety to help cities become safer and more connected to their citizens,” said Mike Zeto, vice president of AT&T’s IoT solutions and general manager of the company’s smart cities division.

Applied Information partnered with Temple to install the beacons at more than 300 schools in 118 Georgia counties by the start of the 2018 school year.
