Louis Berger Contracted to Rehabilitate Historic Sites at Gettysburg National Military Park - top government contractors - best government contracting eventLouis Berger has been chosen to conduct rehabilitation work at two historic sites within the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania for the National Park Service.

The company said Thursday it will serve as a subcontractor to both DHM Design for the project at Little Round Top and to Einhorn Yaffee Prescott Architecture and Engineering, which will head the efforts at Big Round Top.

Dana Otto, NPS client manager at Louis Berger, said the company aims to maintain the sites as touchstones of American history and culture for future generations.

Little Round Top and Big Round Top were among the sites where the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg transpired during the American Civil War.

Louis Berger’s work for Little Round Top will cover traffic and transportation planning, environmental permit and civil engineering support for the realignment of footpaths and roadways, protection of cultural and natural resources, and the safety of pedestrians.

The company would also provide the archaeological consultation services of its principal archaeologist, John Bedell, to a team of designers at Einhorn Yaffee to help protect and preserve existing cultural resources in the design and installation of new roadways, walking trails and utility lines at Big Round Top.

The projects are meant to protect the sites and facilitate access to history, Kenneth Breitkreuz, Louis Berger project manager, said.

The company has provided management and support services for NPS’ construction and conservation initiatives —such as environmental assessments of the Grand Canyon, repair of the Newfound Gap Road at the Great Smoky Mountains and works for the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool — at more than 100 national parks since the 1980s.
