Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson has said government, academic and industry leaders should work together and “take a holistic view of workforce development†to address the shortage of skilled employees in the aerospace and defense sector and advance innovation.
Hewson wrote in an opinion piece posted Thursday on Fox News that the current administration has launched several efforts to close the “skills gap†and those include the formation of the Apprenticeship Task Force and the establishment of the National Council on the American Worker.
She mentioned Lockheed’s initiatives to address that gap, including the company’s plan to offer 8,000 workforce development and apprenticeship opportunities in the next five years and invest $100 million to broaden employee training programs.
“We are targeting outreach and initiatives to help those who are at risk of being displaced by new dynamics in the marketplace,†added Hewson, a four-time Wash100 recipient.
