The U.S. Army has tested the capacity of Lockheed Martin‘s PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptor to counter an air-breathing threat during a test that was held at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.
Lockheed said Thursday the missile defense flight test showcased the missile defense system’s hit-to-kill mechanism and recorded the furthest distance that a PAC-3 MSE has intercepted an ABT.
Army representatives and a foreign military sales customer observed the test.
The system is designed to detect, track and engage tactical ballistic and cruise missiles and aircraft threats.
Aside from the U.S., other countries that have bought PAC-3 interceptors are Germany, Kuwait, Japan, Qatar, Taiwan, Netherlands, Romania, Poland, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
