Lockheed Martin and Arconic have signed a two-year partnership agreement to develop materials and processes for the production of aerospace and defense technology platforms.
Both companies aim to create lightweight material and metal three-dimensional printing systems in a push to help industry advance structures that are not yet available on the market, Arconic said Monday.
“We have a long history of innovative collaboration with Lockheed Martin across multiple platforms—from single-piece forged bulkheads for the F-35 to 3D printed parts for the Orion spacecraft,” said Ray Kilmer, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Arconic.
“Collaborating with Arconic will help us uncover new ideas for materials development where traditional practices aren’t suitable, investigate more sustainable material compositions and find ways to produce materials,” said Rod Makoske, SVP of corporate engineering, technology and operations at Lockheed.
The two companies are working to develop process modeling, simulation technologies and corrosion-resistant alloys.
Arconic is a provider of materials used to produce aircraft engines and airframes.
