Sridhar Sudarsan, formerly chief technology officer of Watson platform and partnerships at IBM, has been appointed to the same role at SparkCognition.

Sudarsan will oversee SparkCognition’s technical and product strategy in collaboration with Bruce Porter, the firm’s chief science officer, and other industry and artificial intelligence experts, the company said Tuesday.

Amir Husain, founder and CEO of SparkCognition, said Sudarsan is an experienced technologist whose insight and knowledge would help the company advance its growth efforts and development of AI systems.

Sudarsan is a 20-year senior technology professional who served as IBM’s chief architect on the Watson platform.

Austin, Texas-based SparkCognition supports defense, national security, infrastructure and financial clients with analytics, AI and machine learning tools.

The Defense Innovation Unit Experimental awarded the company a contract in August 2017 to support the implementation of machine learning and similar methods for U.S. Air Force data analysis efforts.

Boeing and Verizon last year participated in an initial funding round for SparkCognition to help advance the technology firm’s AI development work.
