A joint venture of Fluor and ACS Infrastructure‘s Canadian unit has been tasked to finance, design, build, operate and maintain a bridge that will connect Detroit, Mich. and Windsor, Ontario.
Bridging North America will serve as the prime contractor for the Gordie Howe International Bridge project as the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority’s preferred proponent, Fluor said Thursday.
Terence Easton, infrastructure business president at Fluor, said the joint venture aims to reach a financial close with WDBA later in the year and construct a landmark bridge for locals and travelers.
The cross-border bridge will run from U.S interstate highways 75 and 96, span the Detroit river and link to the new extension of Canada’s Highway 401.
Work will commence this summer and will include ports of entry and updates to existing infrastructure.
WDBA will determine the performance standards for the 30-year operations and maintenance after the construction of the cable-stayed bridge is completed.
The partnership of Fluor and ACS Infrastructure Canada headed the preceding development phase of the project and also currently operates and sustains Highway 401 or the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway.
