BAE Systems‘ U.S. arm will invest $45.5 million to establish manufacturing and office facilities in Huntsville, Ala., as part of an expansion initiative.
The company said Monday it plans to expand its offices on Discovery Drive and build a facility at Cummings Research Park that will include spaces for engineering development, manufacturing and laboratories to support defense technology production efforts.
Paul Markwardt, vice president and general manager of survivability, targeting and sensing solutions at BAE, said the expansion project offers the company an opportunity to strengthen relationships with customers at the U.S. Army and the Redstone Arsenal community.
The defense company tapped Samples Properties, Fuqua & Partners Architects and Pearce Construction to support the construction of an 83,000-square-foot facility.
BAE expects the project to be complete in 2019 and create hundreds of jobs in the region.
