BAE Systems will transition its Compass Call electronic warfare system from the EC-130H to the EC-37B aircraft platform as part of the U.S. Air Force Cross Deck initiative.

Working with L3 Technologies, BAE completed the initial design review for the EW system in 2017 and intends to conduct the final review by fall, BAE said Monday.

Pamela Potter, director of BAE’s electronic attack solutions unit, said the system provides offensive capabilities and critical mission protection, ensuring the Air Force maintains its existing EW superiority.

The EC-37B aircraft features Air Force-specific alterations to the G550 Gulfstream, geared to facilitate expanded stand-off jamming and the ability to counter adversarial communications and radar systems.

Work includes plans to modify up to 10 G550s, with two platforms slated for deployment by 2023.

BAE will continue maintaining the EW EC-130H fleet during the new aircraft’s development, procurement, manufacturing and integration.
