The U.S. Army has issued a request for proposals for the development of conceptual designs based on requirements for the service branch’s future fleet of unmanned aircraft systems.
Proposals for the Phase II Conceptual Design and Technology Assessment of the Next Generation UAS Technology Demonstration will aid the creation of a procurement program for the replacement to the Army’s legacy drones, the service branch said Tuesday.
The Aviation Development Directorate of the Army Research, Development and Engineering Command’s Aviation and Missile Center intends to assess requirements generated from the NexGen UAS TD Phase I Concept Study and determine priority technologies through Phase II.
Flight and functionality demonstrations of identified requirements will be conducted under the NexGen UAS TD Phase III, which can include the development and testing of matured technologies for the engineering and manufacturing stage.
The Army expects that the advanced UAS program of record will produce an operational fleet through 2030.
