Executives from Siemens’ U.S. federal subsidiary and tribal leaders conducted a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday to begin construction work on a solar farm at Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino in Murphy, N.C., the Cherokee One Feather reported Friday.
“Siemens is really pleased at the opportunity to bring tribal and federal resources together to deliver an environmentally sustainable project,†said Sam Lewis, vice president for automation and services at Siemens Government Technologies.
Lewis added the solar farm project seeks to help the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians cover its operating costs in order for the tribe to meet its energy objectives and support other programs.
The Eastern Band tapped Siemens in March to install and manage a 2,000 photovoltaic solar panel array under a $2.36 million contract.
