Raytheon-Kongsberg Team to Build Weapon System for Navy 'Over-the-Horizon' Mission - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRaytheon has partnered with Kongsberg Gruppen to produce a missile system intended for over-the-horizon defense missions onboard the U.S. Navy‘s littoral combat ships and frigates.

The military service picked the companies’ joint Naval Strike Missile offering to support OTH missions under a potential $847.6 million contract, Raytheon said Friday.

Taylor Lawrence, president of Raytheon’s missile systems business, said the team aims to provide an off-the-shelf platform to the Navy and create high-technology jobs through the project.

NSM features seeker and target identification systems and works to reach land and sea targets at a distance of up to 100 nautical miles.

Raytheon has commenced production of NSM launchers at its Louisville, Ky., manufacturing plant and plans to assemble and test the weapon system at a company facility in Tucson, Ariz.
