Lockheed Martin has won a potential $40.4 million contract to develop an intermediate-range hypersonic booster technology for the U.S. Navy, according to a FedBizOpps award notice posted Thursday.
In a separate announcement, the Defense Department said the service branch obligated $11.9 million at the time of award and work will cover booster design, fabrication and validation test services.
The project has an estimated completion date of June 2109 and will take place at various locations in California, Utah, New York, Alabama and North Carolina.
The Navy noted in its solicitation document that the service branch needed two technology booster, solid rocket motor stages and the selected contractor would have an option to build and conduct static fire tests on each TB stage.
