A Kratos Defense & Security Solutions subsidiary has received a potential $2.6 million contract to develop a proof-of-concept platform designed to increase the resiliency and capacity of wideband satellite communications systems and deliver roaming capability to government satcom users.
Kratos RT Logic will demonstrate the proof-of-concept system with a flexible modem interface that works to protect communications across multiple frequency bands and operator networks under the second phase of a pilot program, the company said Friday.
The company will also build and demonstrate a government network operating center prototype built to respond to service provider and user requirements by interfacing with remote terminals and satcom gateways.
Kratos will collaborate with Inmarsat, SES’ government solutions business and Intelsat General to carry out the program, which is sponsored by the military satcom systems directorate’s advanced concepts division at the U.S. Air Force’s space and missile systems center.
Mike Rice, vice president of satellite ground systems at Kratos, said the company will work to help the U.S. government improve space situational awareness, capacity and wideband satcom’s responsiveness and support an enterprise ground architecture through the contract.
