Officials from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center have reviewed SpaceX’s proposal to expand its facilities in the spaceport to support more rocket refurbishments and other operations, Spaceflight Now reported Monday.
KSC officials stated in an environmental assessment that the Hawthorne, Calif.-based firm’s expansion would include sites for booster and fairing processing, storage, launch and landing control, flown rocket displays and component decommissioning.
The report added the control center would contain a data center and firing and engineering rooms for Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy and Dragon missions.
“As SpaceX’s launch cadence and manifest for missions from Florida continues to grow, we are seeking to expand our capabilities and streamline operations to launch, land and refly our Falcon family of rockets,†said SpaceX spokesperson James Gleeson.
SpaceX will possibly be able to use NASA’s property when the proposed expansion is approved.
The space transportation services provider currently uses several sites within Cape Canaveral Air Force Station to process rockets and payloads.
