Seven companies have agreed to serve as Iridium Communications’ service providers for the Iridium Certus broadband capability for maritime applications.
The McLean, Va.-based company said Tuesday the distributors of the L band service now include Globecomm, Network Innovations, Pivotel, MVS USA, IEC-Telecom, MetOcean Telematics and Samsan Enterprise Company.
Wouter Deknopper, vice president and general manager of maritime at Iridium, stated that the partnerships will help address the demand for connectivity options in the maritime industry to accommodate different types of vessels.
The Iridium NEXT low-Earth orbit satellite constellation powers Iridium Certus, which is currently in its evaluation phase.
The service is designed to support multiple speed classes and capabilities, as well as offer safety services and several streaming options.
Iridium will commercially launch Iridium Certus in 2018.
