John “Jerry” McGinn, former principal deputy director at the Defense Department‘s office of manufacturing and industrial base policy, has joined the George Mason School of Business as executive director for its Government Contracting Initiative.
The school said McGinn will work with George Mason University’s faculty members to develop GovCon-related courses for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as executive development and certification programs.
He will also manage fundraising for the initiative’s operations, outreach, research and scholarship efforts.
McGinn told GovConDaily Friday, “I am very excited to be joining the George Mason School of Business.  This is a great opportunity to establish a first-in-the-nation university center for research, teaching and collaboration on the issues facing the GovCon community.”
“I very much look forward to working with GMU faculty and students, as well as industry and government stakeholders, on this important effort,” he added.
McGinn was president of McGinn Defense Consulting, managed strategic contracts at Deloitte‘s consulting practice and was a political scientist at RAND Corp. His other private sector roles include vice president of strategic initiatives at QinetiQ North America and corporate director of international government relations at Northrop Grumman.
Before joining industry, McGinn served in the U.S. Army as an infantry officer.
