Cubic has secured a potential $276 million contract to design, build and operate a ticketing system for public transportation across the Australian state of Queensland.
The company said Wednesday its transportation systems business will provide a technology platform equipped with contactless payment and passenger information processing tools under the contract with Queensland’s department of transport and main roads.
Bradley Feldmann chairman, president and CEO of Cubic, said the company aims to help DTMR manage daily commuter trips.
The system will allow passengers to pay their fares with the use of mobile phones, bankcards or personal electronic devices such as a watch.
Tom Walker, senior vice president and managing director of CTS’ Asia-Pacific operations, said DTMR initially partnered with the company in 2003 to build the go card electronic ticketing system.
The company also received contracts to install ticketing and payment systems in New York and Boston.
