Concurrent Technologies Corp. has won a nearly $1 million contract to help the Air Force Research Laboratory design and test a light cart platform in an effort to reduce the U.S. Air Force‘s reliance on petroleum fuel.

CTC said Tuesday it plans to integrate multiple technologies and control approaches into the Advanced Flightline Power and Light System for the service branch.

“For this project, we are using a traditional system engineering approach designed for a swift transition into the Air Force inventory,” said CTC President and CEO Ed Sheehan.

Sheehan added the company aims to help the service branch meet energy efficiency goals with the technology that he believes has potential applications for the Defense Department.

USAF deploys light carts to provide illumination for ground-level flightline activities, maintenance, troubleshooting and perimeter security.

The company will deploy up to 10 current employees to support AFPALS development work over a 21-month period.
