CenturyLink Designated as Quilt Coalition’s Internet Service Provider; David Young Comments

A nonprofit coalition of U.S. research and education networks has authorized CenturyLink to offer commercial internet services to the organization’s members under a two-year contract.

CenturyLink said Wednesday it won a contract from Quilt after a competitive solicitation process for internet protocol transit providers.

David Young, senior vice president of strategic government at CenturyLink, said the selection acknowledges the company’s role in offering secure network systems to large educational institutions and public consortia.

Young assumed his current position in May and oversees the telecommunications firm’s activities in the research and education sectors as part of his responsibilities.

Quilt represents more than 900 educational institutions and 40 networks across the country.
