Boeing has invested in Kittyhawk to help the San Francisco-based startup advance the development of its mobile-based applications and enterprise software offerings that work to integrate and manage flight operations of unmanned aircraft systems through a single platform.
Boeing said Wednesday its HorizonX Ventures joined Bonfire Ventures and Freestyle Capital in a seed funding round for Kittyhawk.
Kittyhawk will use its technology offerings to back the development of a UAS traffic management system designed to support the integration of autonomous systems into the national airspace.
The company also works with Boeing’s Jeppesen subsidiary on the Federal Aviation Administration’s Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability program that aims to develop UTM processes to integrate drones, beyond-line-of-sight and cargo delivery operations into the airspace.
“When paired with the broad portfolio of complementary data service offerings within Boeing, Kittyhawk is poised to help us shape the future of safe autonomous flight,” said Brian Schettler, managing director of Boeing HorizonX Ventures.
