Peter Whitfield, chief financial officer at American Systems, has won the Virginia Business magazine’s CFO award in the large private company category in recognition of his financial knowhow and commitment to the financial community.
Whitfield was chosen from a set of seven finalists and honored at the magazine’s gala ceremony held Wednesday, June 20, in Richmond, Va., American Systems said Monday.
“Our employee-owners and I admire and respect [Whitfield] for both his financial leadership and his character,†said Peter Smith, American Systems president and CEO.
“It is gratifying to see him recognized for these same qualities by his peers and industry experts,†added Smith, a 2018 Wash100 recipient.
Whitfield has over three decades of finance, operations and accounting experience and joined American Systems as CFO in 2015 after serving in the same capacity at Share Spectrum and GTSI, which now operates as Unicom Government.
He also held senior operations and finance leadership roles at several companies such as MCI, InPhonic, Winstar and Broadwing.
