AECOM has landed a potential $24 million contract to help the U.S. Navy build an aircraft parking apron and support facilities at a military air base located in Darwin, Australia.
The company said Thursday it will construct four airfield-rated concrete, paved parking spots; install four Type III fuel hydrant pits; and relocate existing fuel isolation valve pits at the Royal Australian Air Force Base Darwin.
“This project will provide critical defense infrastructure and expand our federal construction portfolio in the Australian market,†said Vern Kuehn, executive vice president and general manager of the federal division at AECOM’ construction services business.
The Naval Facilities Engineering Command awarded the contract as part of the U.S. Force Posture Initiative that includes a potential U.S.-Australia investment of more than $1.5 billion to modernize defense assets in the Northern Territory.
The initiative is part of a larger potential 10-year, $6.12 billion program that covers construction, professional support, maintenance and logistics.
