Mac Curtis, president and CEO of Vencore, has said the company’s applied research work would help differentiate Perspecta from other government information technology services contractors, the Washington Business Journal reported Monday.

Curtis will become CEO of Perspecta that will operate as a publicly traded company under the ticker symbol “PRSP” once DXC Technology completes by May 31 the spinoff of its U.S. public sector business and merge it with Vencore and KeyPoint Government Solutions.

Vencore provides applied research support through New Jersey-based Applied Communication Sciences, which rebranded as Vencore Labs in 2015 following its acquisition in 2013.

Curtis said ACS receives $80 million in annual applied research funds from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and other defense and intelligence organizations and that research work leads to intellectual property and proofs of concept.

“The beauty of this part of the business is we are 12 to 24 months ahead of dealing with the most complex problems that the government needs to solve, because that is DARPA’s mission,” added Curtis, a 2018 Wash100 recipient.
