UTC Aerospace Systems has launched an optical payload system for small autonomous drones that need to comply to the size, weight and power requirements of the Defense Department, foreign militaries and civilian unmanned aerial system customers.
The N.C.-based company said Monday the TASE250 system is designed to offer longwave infrared and visible imaging capabilities that will provide UAS operators with enhanced situational awareness all day, an all-digital imaging chain and a modified lens design.
The device also includes an on-board global positioning system/inertial navigation system with geopointing and ViewPoint tactical processing, exploitation and dissemination capabilities, which will allow operators to receive and send critical data.
The TASE250, which is 5.5 inches in diameter, belongs in UTC Aerospace Systems’ existing TASE range of devices, which have previously been used for harsh autonomous military situations.
“Smaller size and weight means these systems can be deployed at lower altitudes and from a variety of platforms,†said Kevin Raftery, vice president and general manager of UTC Aerospace Systems’ airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance business.
