The U.S. Navy has awarded Raytheon a $28.5 million contract to provide an electro-optical/infrared sensor technology designed to process visual imagery and complement electronic sensors of a U.S. Army unmanned aircraft system.
Raytheon will provide 20 common sensor payloads that include data, one turret and an electronics unit in each CSP system for the Army’s MQ-1C Gray Eagle UAS, the Defense Department said Friday.
EO/IR sensors are designed to support low-visibility and night navigation, interception, observation, surveillance, reconnaissance, identification, situational awareness and threat warning functions.
The Naval Surface Warfare Center Division awarded the contract through a non-competitive procurement process.
Funds from the Army’s fiscal 2018 aircraft procurement budget will cover the full obligated amount at the time of award.
Raytheon is scheduled to finish contract work in October 2019.
