Planet and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency have partnered in an effort to increase the process for NGA to extract and analyze commercial imagery.
Manuela McCabe, NGA’s Planet CRADA program manager, said in a statement published Thursday both parties signed a cooperative research and development agreement that could yield change detection services such as object monitoring, broad area search and baseline and foundation layers generation.
McCabe added the agency also seeks to gain insight on current and future services that use the company’s high-frequency imagery stacks.
In July 2017, NGA purchased a one-year, $14 million subscription to Planet’s imagery through the General Services Administration‘s Information Technology Schedule contract.
The subscription followed an introductory contract the agency and the company signed in 2016.
