MITRE is seeking ForeFlight users to help test a new mobile-based technology being developed to streamline the delivery process of instrument flight rules clearances.
The test will support the former’s study on the use of mobile devices to deliver IFR clearances at airports that do not employ pre-departure clearance/data comm clearance, ForeFlight said Thursday.
The study aims to reduce time costs and vulnerability to errors in IFR delivery by replacing the current audio-based delivery methods with a text-based application.
Following the test, pilots will be asked to compare the results of text-based email clearance with the existing method.
The test will begin on May 15 and continue through July 29 at the Manassas Airport in Virginia.
