Harris has secured a potential $15-year, $141 million contract from the Airports Authority of India to help modernize the country’s air traffic management communications system.
The company said Thursday it aims to help AAI update network operations and security measures as well as increase the performance, quality and reliability of the Indian ATM infrastructure through the Futuristic Telecommunications Infrastructure initiative.
AAIÂ operates 129 airports across the country.
Harris intends to apply its experience supporting the Federal Aviation Administration‘s managed services network to the company’s project in India.
The International Air Transport Association reported that passenger traffic of India’s domestic civil aviation has expanded by 18 percent last year and projected the number of domestic passengers to double in the next 10 years.
