The Broadcasting Board of Governors has awarded Globecomm a five-year contract to help transmit radio and television programming content to the Middle East and North Africa.
Globecomm said Tuesday it will support the transmission of Middle East Broadcasting Network‘s Radio Sawa audio and Alhurra video through teleport, satellite transponder and terrestrial fiber services under the contract.
“This project underlines the company’s focus on the transition of complex government owned-and-operated satellite and terrestrial networks to commercial content delivery services,†said Dwight Hunsicker, executive vice president and general manager of Globecomm’s government division.
Hunsicker added that BBG selected the company for the program based on its capacity to manage broadcast network services as well as technical and operational experience.
The contract will mark its first broadcast work for BBG and first deployment under the General Services Administration‘s potential $2.5 billion Complex Commercial Satellite Communications Solutions procurement vehicle.
