Emcore has received a contract from a U.S. defense contractor to design an inertial measurement unit to support airborne line-of-sight and navigation functions of a fighter aircraft targeting pod.
The company said Thursday it will also deliver hardware by the end of the year for use in flight demonstrations slated to occur early in 2019.
Emcore designed its IMU products with integrated optics and field programmable gate array electronics.
The IMU technology also employs the company’s Mixed-SignalsOptics technology that combines analog and digital types of circuitry on chips.
The company expects to receive a follow-on for the annual production of hundreds of units beginning in 2020.
Emcore will exhibit its fiber optic gyro and navigational products at the Space Tech Expo that will take place in Pasadena, Calif., from May 22 to 24.
