DARPA Taps SRI International to Develop Adaptive AI System - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has selected SRI International to construct an artificial intelligence platform with machine learning features to gradually improve task performance.

The company said Wednesday it will perform this work under DARPA’s Lifelong Learning Machines Program.

Modern AI systems may be prone to catastrophic forgetting that occurs when new content disrupts previous information, SRI noted.

“Our goal is to address these limitations by enabling AI systems to know what to learn and when,” said Sek Chai, technical director at the company’s Center for Vision Technologies.

He added that the research will seek to apply the concept of biological memory transfers to AI algorithms.
