Concurrent Technologies Corp, has received a contract to design, build and test a repower system to convert the U.S. Air Force‘s diesel-based aircraft loader into a diesel/electric vehicle.
CTC predicts a 20 to 40 percent increase in energy efficiency once the Halvorsen Loader is converted into a hybrid vehicle that will operate through batteries leveraging grid power, the Air Force Research Laboratory said Friday.
The Air Force and CTC aim to demonstrate the platform sometime in 2019.
First Lt. Michael Morris, manager of the electric Halvorsen project at APTO, stated that the demonstration will open opportunities to further leverage energy for the Air Force, as well as enable maintenance crew to conduct organized operations.
APTO intends to create and conduct several technology demonstrations that support energy assurance efforts that can be implemented across the service.
