Battelle has announced plans to select technology research-and-development projects to receive funds through the nonprofit company’s inaugural R&D Challenge.
The company said Wednesday it will introduce the competition during the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference that is scheduled to take place at the Tampa Bay Convention Center in Florida from May 22 to 24.
Mike Kuhlman, chief scientist at Battelle, said the company aims to help special operators address R&D challenges in the electronics, cyber, communications and tactical areas.
Selectees will receive technical support services over a two-month period.
Battelle’s technical staff will continue to collaborate with project owners after the conclusion of SOFIC in efforts to help them advance technology platforms.
The company plans to showcase an armored non-standard commercial vehicle, the HeatCoat system designed to protect aircraft from ice, a communications technology suite and a non-lethal munition and launcher platform at the event.
