Boeing‘s Aurora Flight Sciences subsidiary has adopted a software platform Lockheed Martin developed to help operators manage numerous unmanned vehicles for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
Aurora Flight Sciences purchased the Vehicle Control Station product in a move to accelerate its autonomous technology development efforts, Lockheed said Tuesday.
VSCi is built upon an open architecture framework and designed to comply with the NATO STANAG 4586 standard interface for unmanned aerial vehicle control systems.
“We are in the middle of testing VCSi flight modes and route uploads against our ground and flight software,” said Sean Engdahl, senior software engineer at Aurora Flight Sciences.
Keith Purtle, business development manager at Lockheed’s CDL Systems business, said Aurora Flight Sciences has used the VCS-4586 vehicle control station over the past decade.
