Raytheon, Navy Complete Final Developmental Test of F-35C Joint Standoff Weapon - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRaytheon and the U.S. Navy have finished developmental testing of the Joint Standoff Weapon C warhead for use on the F-35 aircraft’s C variant.

The company said Tuesday the 1,000-pound JSOW makes use of a global positioning system-based inertial navigation platform equipped with an infrared seeker made to autonomously detect targets.

The air-to-ground weapon system was designed to chase targets at ranges over 80 miles in austere conditions.

F-35 builder Lockheed Martin also took part in the final test that occurred on the Calif.-based China Lake ranges, in preparation for the weapon’s full fielding scheduled for 2019.
