Orbital ATK has performed and completed the demonstration of a new missile warhead being developed for use at hyper velocities.
The company said Thursday it used real world data as the basis to model the design of a hypersonic missile weapon built for high temperature resistance.
Additive manufacturing or 3D printing was used in producing components for the test models of the warhead.
The company applied its Lethality Enhanced Ordnance technology that was made to allow for an extended range of options for warhead sizes.
The warhead is required to take an unconventional shape designed to ensure fragmentation upon contact with targets.
The series of developmental tests for the weapon concluded in under 60 days.
