Lockheed Martin and Rovsing have partnered to test the Denmark-based space engineering firm’s Solar Array Simulator as both companies aim to help address a demand for new test equipment in the satellite industry.
The Danish Business Authority approved the project in accordance with the country’s Guidelines for Industrial Co-Operation, Lockheed said Thursday.
Brad Holland, senior manager for electronic ground support equipment testing at Lockheed, said he believes SAS can help power nanosatellites and crewed interplanetary missions.
“When landing on Mars, we have to know how much power our vehicles can support in the same way as astronauts rely on solar arrays on the International Space Station. Power means life for the mission and life for our astronauts,” Holland added.
The partnership completed the initial evaluation and demonstration of the Rovsing Power Special Check-Out Equipment Reference System equipped with the RO-5100 SAS test product.
