Leonardo DRS has been selected to provide sensors for an aircraft missile warning system BAE Systems is developing for the U.S. Army under a $97.9 million contract awarded in December.
BAE will build the 2-Color Advanced Warning System to increase threat detection and protection capacities of Army rotary-wing aircraft through the Limited Interim Missile Warning System Quick Reaction Capability program, Leonardo DRS said Friday.
2C-AWS is designed to integrate with aircraft interfaces and countermeasures systems.
Shawn Black, vice president and general manager of Leonardo DRS’ electro-optical infrared systems business, said the company aims to provide a sensor technology for Army aviators and crews to counter threats in the battlefield.
Leonardo DRS provided its Dual Mode Warning Sensor to BAE’s LIMWS QRC offering as a basis for the service branch’s infrared sensor requirement.
