In-Q-Tel has established a strategic partnership with Red Balloon Security to help the New York City-based cybersecurity firm further develop a security platform for embedded devices.
Red Balloon’s Symbiote Defense technology is compatible with firmware stacks, operating systems and hardware and works to provide embedded devices with endpoint security, IQT said Wednesday.
Ang Cui, CEO and founder of Red Balloon Security, said the company will work with IQT to make Symbiote Defense available to defense and government agencies as well as health care, transportation and critical infrastructure sectors.
George Hoyem, IQT managing partner, said Red Balloon’s platform has the potential to build up the security posture of national security-critical embedded tools and works to home in on cyber vulnerabilities that were previously unaddressed in internet-connected devices.
The company has existing contracts with the departments of Homeland Security and Defense for the Symbiote Defense technology, which is also under license with consumer electronics firms including HP Inc.
