General Dynamics‘ Bath Iron Works subsidiary has completed hull, mechanical and electrical delivery of a second Zumwalt-class guided missile destroyer to the U.S. Navy.

The Navy said Tuesday it accepted ownership of the future USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) ship after a series of assessments and demonstrations of the vessel’s HM&E systems that include boat handling, anchoring and mooring, damage control, ballasting, navigation and communications systems.

“Delivery of DDG 1001 marks the culmination of years of dedication and hard work from our Navy and industry team,” said Capt. Kevin Smith,  program manager for Zumwalt-class ships.

The 610-foot features multiple antennas designed to reduce its visibility to adversarial radars and is scheduled to be commissioned in January 2019.

Bath Iron Works is building the future USS Lyndon B. Johnson, the third and final ship of the Navy’s Zumwalt class, at a shipyard in Maine.
